Banners - too much information!

After more than one person asked about making the new Franklin Zito Club Banner, it seemed like a good idea to try and put up more information in here.

Talking with Doug Coates, it was hard to explain about the direction of the lettering on the banners. Let us emphasize: There is no 'correct' or 'incorrect'. It is all personal preference. Now, having said that, let's revue some of the things that were presented in the workshop.

On the 20-foot Club Banners, the lettering goes in two different directions.

Left
Right

The reason for this is that when it is really windy, it is important to lean the banners and poles away from wind so to not bend the rebar or break the banner pole. This way the lettering is still legible even if the banner is leaned over.

On the smaller 6-foot banners, it is not necessary to lean them over. They are fine if perfectly upright, even in 30+ mile an hour wind. So on the 6-foot banners, I chose to make the lettering just as on a book spine. The letters read top to bottom on both a left-blowing and a right-blowing banner.

Doug and I were talking about the direction(s) of the lettering. In the workshop he made his banner with the lettering reading from bottom to top. That is actually not a problem. As Willa discovered with her banner, it is as simple as opening up the Pole Sleeve from the other end.

A Right Banner, a banner that has the Pole Sleeve to the left, with the lettering reading from bottom to top, is also a Left Banner, with the lettering reading from top to bottom.
